In The Land of Oz… Sydney, Australia.

A year ago, I would have never thought I would be sitting in bed today, writing a blog post about this past week I spent in Sydney, Australia… Yeah I guess we all say in a year so much can happen, but to be here… sitting here, making an attempt at describing all of the amazing things I have just experienced in a brand new country… not to mention continent… I truly feel beyond blessed.

To begin, I will list the trip in a day by day fashion in order to begin separating the immensely blurred week of a holiday I just had. I will then do separate posts to go into detail about some of my favorite parts. I only wish I could have filmed my entire trip in order to splice the moments I am most fond of together in order to share with the world today… but I guess there would be no fun in blogging then would there…

Anyway.

Day 1- Thursday

Arrive in Sydney, Australia airport at 7:40 a.m.

– Wait to meet my friend from America in that same airport… desperately attempting to find wifi in order to connect with her, because oops I forgot we’ve just entered a brand new country and my New Zealand number and plan was not going to work with me.

– Finally, we are reunited and we make our way to the glorious Jollyswagman Backpackers… yes that is the actual name of the hostel we stayed at for a week straight. Smack dab in the center of the popular “Kings Cross”. Location wise, this hostel was perfect and convenient, and then of course it was cost effective…. other than that, it was just about as hostel-y as you can get. We had a “private room for 3 with added kitchenette”. This meant a shoebox equipped with a double bed and twin bunk overhead, as well as a small shelf with added sink, and mini fridge.

There was also a fan… a fan that managed to circulate the incredibly hot air that snuck into the room during the day and would never leave. I don’t think there was any point during the trip wear I wasn’t sweating even just a little bit.

However, on the bright side, this was a nice change from the New Zealand cold, windy, and rainy weather that we are so used to having. We embraced our hostel for what it had to provide and enjoyed meeting the quite interesting fellow backpackers that spent their time either watching movies in the bean-bag filled movie room, or eating kidney beans and watermelon for dinner in the kitchen seating area.

All in all, there are probably a million ways to do Sydney, but we chose this way, and although we did not get to everything I wanted, we did our best to see and experience as much as possible without ruining the fact that we were still on holiday trying to bask in he sun for as long as we could. It always feels like you need an extra day or two to get to everything.. but I feel amazingly accomplished and know that I will return back to the land of Oz with future ventures in mind. IMG_8231
