I’ve never been very fascinated with science… not one bit. Mainly because I could never fully understand it. However, what I witnessed at the Waiotapu Thermal Park in Rotorua was the most extreme bit of scientific intrigue that I have ever felt.
The land was covered in large masses of boiling water, minerals, and other chemicals that creates this enormous amount of energy all on its own! There were craters that had been blown up hundreds of years before from the implosions and explosions of this energy and what was left is surprisingly quite the site to see.
I can only imagine what it must have been like to be the first human to discover a place like this. Walking along an unknown path and stepping into 100+ Degree C liquid and not knowing why it was there or where it had come from.
The earth is amazing. Mother nature creates these captivating bits of wonder and sprinkles them around on the ground and in the sea for people millions of years later to discover and put to good use. It is amazing that we are able to use this natural energy to fuel a lot of the things that run here in New Zealand. As well as utilize the natural heat for our own leisure bathing and relaxation at the hot pools. 😉
Shortly after this photo was taken, that geyser (“Lady Knox Geyser”) blew up into the air oozing out great amounts of smoke and foam.
The photo above pictures the bubbling mud pools that are nowadays utilized in many facial products because the minerals found in the mud have proven to be highly beneficial for the skin.
Of course I bought a sample of the mud mask at the nearby souvenir shop to try for myself 🙂
Devil’s Bath
Believe it or not, the water seen in this picture is actually greener than that color green. I believe the color comes from the high concentration of suspended sulphur in the water.
Truly amazing what mother nature chooses to do in her spare time…
